To Mary & Dan

To Mary & Dan,
On their Wedding day.
On their Engagement,
My first sibling to “tie the knot”.

What can I say about the Happy Couple?
Well they seem perfectly matched for each other.
Mary is beautiful, intelligent, caring.
Dan is hard-working, sociable, sporty and easy to get along with.

They both have good steady jobs,
Financial security helps these days,
For the things we associate with married life:
A house together,
Holidaying together,
Socialising together,
Maybe even raising children together.

And so with open arms,
And open hearts,
We welcome Daniel Oates into our Mulvey Family.
And likewise I’m sure,
Our Mary will be welcomed into Daniel Oates’ Family,
Not losing a Sister,
But gaining a Brother-In-Law!

So to my wonderful sister Mary,
And her chosen life-long companion:
May I propose a toast,
To the long-lasting happiness,
That they may share together,
Forever,
Amen!

Being 30

Oh what a pleasure it is to be,
The age of 30 beginning with a number 3.
After all good things come in 3s,
Or even 4 as in our family.

To celebrate with a party can be fun,
So long as you don't leave any one out among the young.
Friendly faces all around,
Reminding one of what is dear to one's heart.
Good food and fine wine,
And how about the company, all good cheer.

Music is always dearest to my heart,
Moves me in ways that words can not express.
These are the best things I can enjoy,
A whole new decade to enjoy!

Laughter

Rolling in the isles, or chortling at the screen,
Laughter creates happiness, as best as it would seem.
We all love the Hollywood greates,
Such as Charlie Chaplin or Laurel and Hardy.
They worked their magic in silent form,
Like Buster Keaton stunts to perform.

In the modern era comedy is constantly changing,
Becoming more and more surreal.
But what I like the best is the old slapstick,
Like John Cleese in Fawlty Towers,
Or Blazing Saddles with Mel Brookes,

The comedy spoof always makes me laugh.

What A Day

What a day,
What a day.
No Counselling,
Freezing cold,
Snow everywhere!

Mobile Phone not working,
Insides “shot-to-pieces”.
Bumped into Rachel,
But don’t want to go out with her.

Smoking cigarettes,
Just to keep Psychosis at bay,
What a day,
What a day!

Oh What A Jest

Later on walking down Burleigh Street,
Tom of the Home Treatment Team walked by.
We chatted politely,
And I told him I needed to rest.
He wished he could do likewise,
And then wished me the best.

This did tickle me so,
If only he knew:
To me that was quite some jest!

For to me you see,
Life has been far from pleasent,
I don’t mean to go on...
So I’ve been writing this poem for too long!

Healing on the Loo

Here I am sitting on the loo,
Letting my body relax until I do a poo.
Reading my faveourite book,
Lord of the Rings is best.
Feeling my body relaxing,
Healing in its own way,
Brain relaxes as I stimulate my mind,
Followed by my insides.

If I need to get up it does not matter,
I drink some water or sip my coffee,
Then I sit back down and continue where I left off,
If I don't have a result in time,
More yoga and maybe reflexology is required.
Not forgetting pinching the skin,
A good massage and a bowl of prunes should always get you moving!

A Cry For Help

Gordon Brown please listen:
To the Voice of a Service User,
Of Mental Health Services in Cambridge.
Though my experiences of Mental Suffering may be Unique,
I’m sure that I speak with the Voice of all Service Users in Cambridge and Beyond.

Whose Fate suffers,
Due to closures of vital local Mental Health Service Providers,
Such as our very own Lifecraft,
Here in Cambridge.

Listen to the Voices,
At a Members Meeting,
These fellow Sufferes,
Have nowhere else to go,
No one else who will listen.

Fairer Taxation is the answer:
Tax the Rich,
To help the Poor and Needy,
Footballers and their Wives,
Or Peoples Lives?

Charity funding is all very well,
When there is enough Money to go around.
But don’t forget the Politicians too:
A Lib-Dem Council here in Cambridge,
But rich Colleges of Cambridge University,
Seem to ignore the Local Folks,
Like us Mental Health Service Users,
Who are too scared to go out and about!

However it is more than just,
Cambridge and its Colleges;
I’m sure that Linton is right:
Enough Money to go around,
But how is it spent?
That is the question!

For example Fighting in Iraq,
Thousands of miles from home,
Putting the People there in a “living hell”.
Surely if the West pulled out,
And let them Fight amongst Themselves,
Wouldn’t they find it better?

I mean can a Quarter of a Million People be wrong?
The biggest public March London has ever seen!
And now it turns out,
There wasn’t enough Evidence,
For ousting Saddham Husein out.

Much the same conflict in Afghanistan too,
And what with the Trident Nuclear Submarines too.
What I am trying to point out,
Is that plenty of Money is out there and about.

All we need to do,
Is to press the Politicians,
To ensure Fairer Distribution of all these Funds:
Such as fuelling Global Conflicts,
For the sake of riches.
Exploiting the Poor overseas,
For their Oil,
Fuelling more Global Consumerism,
Or saving Peoples lives back home?

For example, where I am concerned:
The threat of Lifecraft Closure,
Here in Cambridge,
Partly due to Local Rents up to high.
Can’t the Politicians do something about this?
The College Bosses “Up To High”.
